Does Ted Kennedy’s decades long alcohol abuse have anything to do with guilt over the death of MJ Kopechne?
Have any psychiatrists ever weighed in on this one? I think it does. Killing a person and getting away with it can and does mess with your mind. That’s what most murderers say when they finally confess, how it feels better to get if off of their mind. I think Teddy has been self medicating his guilt away all these years.

No, you need a conscious to feel guilt.
I think his substance abuse began before her death. I hope he feels guilty about it every day of his life.
I do not think he cares at all. Peace
He was drinking that night and sobered up or woke up when he hit the
water
In my opinion Teddy Kennedy is a murderer. He was responsible for the death of Kopechne. Camelot covered it up. It was not reported until two days later. Teddy will face the Almighty soon for this. I hope he will confess his sins.
it was a long time ago and i don’t remember a lot about it but i think he started drinking long before that. i believe they had been to a party but left together and they were way out in the country and he drove off a bridge into the ocean or something like that but i don’t think he reported it till the next day.
More to do with Irish blood. Self medicating is psychobabble.
Enough with Teddy, move on.
Michael NJ: Wow, the bridge did it! That is the most amazing think I have read here! Again Bush manned up and quit drinking, Ted never did!
Ted Kennedy did not kill Mary Jo Kopechne. Her death was due to a moron who did not know how to properly design and light a bridge.
By contrast, George W. Bush was a raging alcoholic… and then did things for which he should have felt terribly guilty, but he never has felt guilt over them.
By the way, do you know which of those two was convicted of drunk driving? It was Bush. Come to think of it, so was Dick Cheney.
Odd how the most judgemental people are also the least informed. For your own edification, read the transcripts of the Watergate Hearings. You will learn who else was at that party that night and you will learn that this vile person, working on behalf of the Grand Old Party, was the bartender. He was the one who served Ted Kennedy that night, but there was more than alcohol and ice cubes in his drink. Ted Kennedy could have pointed the finger at the real culprit, but he allowed the world to point their fingers at him. His brother did the same thing at the Bay of Pigs fiasco – which was not HIS plan but Eisenhower’s. And in that case too, the GOP made sure it would fail. JFK took it square on the chin and Nixon hated him for not caving. And one more thing, Ted Kennedy, last I heard, has never accepted a paycheck from his country for any of the work he has done for it and for you. All I know is that had I been born a Kennedy, I would have packed my bags and left this ungrateful nation by December 1963. And I would never have stepped foot on its soil again.
Edit: I expected better of an Irishman, if you are indeed one. Very doubtful.
Teddy or Sir drinks alot , as he is more commonly know has been medicating himself since he was a young man trying to live up to his asshole brothers reputations, after he murdered Mary Jo , who was pregnant at the time, he just crawled further into the bottle and denial
The guilt does not lie soley with Ted
BUT with the residents of the state of Massachusetts for not prosecuting him and electing and re-electing him.
as for the drinking I agree with the others here he was always a drunk
probably because he was a solid, rich, youngest son, and was thought (I think) to be the least able of all the boys in the family.
