A counselor working with patients experiencing anxiety in Pittsburgh, PA frequently finds anxiety and substance abuse going hand-in-hand. Abuse of alcohol and drugs is often a symptom as much as it is an addiction. It is a symptom of anxiety or depression and it boils down to the fact the person is unable to express deep seated emotions or feelings in a constructive manner and uses substances as substitutes.

The darker side of this modern life style is the tremendous pressure and stress that is sometimes unbearable. And out of these pressure people are suffering from anxiety and frustration. This time the effect of recession has brought all these things of anxiety and depression in people’s mind that they are seeking the temporary escape from these problems by taking drugs and alcohol. Not only that the illegal drugs are the sources of this addiction but also it is often seen these days that people are getting addicted to prescription drugs also. This too is quite an alarming fact. Addiction to painkillers and prescription drug addiction are two new things with theirs fatal effects. But people are quite ignorant while taking these drugs and painkillers. In general this is called drug abuse. Any kind of drug abuse can be termed as drug addiction too as does not mean addicted to things like marijuana, heroine, cocaine etc. other drug addictions are like opiate addiction, xanex addiction.
The effects of all these types of drug addiction are both physical and mental. The particular person becomes gradually poorer and poorer day by day and he loses his concentration and patience. Hypnotherapy really can help you take back the control you may have lost, to be able to drink only those limits that you know are recommended to be safe, to be able to stop before you get to the point of no return, and be able to put drinking back into perspective, where it once was. This session will leave you feeling more confident, better able to cope with all that life can throw at you, and above all, in total control at all times, of the levels of alcohol you buy and consume.
Social drinking is a fact of life, no point in denying it, and when alcohol is drunk in moderation it can be a pleasant experience that is enjoyed by thousands. Problems start to appear though, when alcohol is drunk in quantities or a frequency that starts to affect mental, emotional or physical well-being, and this can occur slowly without you even being aware of it, until something happens that you never thought would.

Question by Adore this: how long does it take to detox from years of alcohol abuse?
A friend of mine has stopped drinking but, he feels hung over still. It has been one week. He has lost five pounds and has more energy. I afraid he is just in the honeymoon phase of quitting. (meaning it’s easy at first and then it will hit him hard)I heard somewhere that alcohol detox is worse than heroin?! He is a major drinker for over thirteen years. Any advice?
