Hypnotherapy really can help you take back the control you may have lost, to be able to drink only those limits that you know are recommended to be safe, to be able to stop before you get to the point of no return, and be able to put drinking back into perspective, where it once was. This session will leave you feeling more confident, better able to cope with all that life can throw at you, and above all, in total control at all times, of the levels of alcohol you buy and consume.

Social drinking is a fact of life, no point in denying it, and when alcohol is drunk in moderation it can be a pleasant experience that is enjoyed by thousands. Problems start to appear though, when alcohol is drunk in quantities or a frequency that starts to affect mental, emotional or physical well-being, and this can occur slowly without you even being aware of it, until something happens that you never thought would.

Once you are on the road to drinking too much alcohol, and start depending on it because you believe it makes you feel better, enables you to relax more, gives you confidence, helps you sleep, and so on, it can be difficult to make the rational choices you know you have to make; life can become more stressful, work more pressured, and relationships with others can deteriorate. So if this is sounding like a lifestyle choice you don’t want, choose something else!

During a Hypnotherapy session, it is the unconscious part of the mind that is spoken to, where new ideas, concepts and affirmations can be implanted, and it is here that old limiting beliefs and habits can be changed. Past phobias and learnt negative behaviour patterns, feelings and concepts can be looked at and laid to rest, allowing the conscious mind to adopt a more rational, positive outlook. The subconscious part of our mind has no critical awareness, and is only limited by our imagination.

Self-Hypnosis is a powerful self-help tool for implementing change within your life. It is simple, effective, non-invasive, produces long-term changes, and can be used by almost everyone.

By using Self-Hypnosis pre-recorded material such as a CD and mp3 download, you will have at the touch of button the benefits of a full Hypnotherapy session, that can be used whenever you need to, as often as you need to. It’s as simple as that!

Things you need to know about Alcohol:

Alcohol is a mood altering depressant drug. The reason that alcohol can cause such extensive damage to the body because it can go everywhere! There is no body cell resistant to alcohol. The first stop is the stomach, where without food; alcohol is absorbed directly into the blood stream. Food will actually slow the absorption of alcohol as will fruit juice and water. Vomiting, one of the body’s defences against an alcohol overdose, and is caused when you drink too much.

Alcohol moves quickly to the brain and passes the blood-brain barrier, which normally keeps harmful substances away from the brain. In the brain, alcohol affects the neurons, causing judgement problems, coordination problems, and a host of other problem. Once in the blood stream, alcohol goes to the liver for detoxification, or break down, by the alcohol-attacking enzyme alcohol dehydrogenise. Eventually, the alcohol is broken down and excreted from the body.

Your Appearance – If you want to have clear skin and bright eyes, don’t drink alcohol. According to researchers, more than one or two drinks a week promote aging. Alcohol is considered a food with non-nutritional calories that quickly add up. When you abuse alcohol, you tend to be undernourished, making your hair dry, giving you cracked lips, aggravating acne, making your eyes look glassy, and giving your skin a puffy, broken vein look.

Your Brain – Alcohol is a depressant that slows brain activity down. While one or two drinks makes most people feel relaxed, more alcohol may cause feelings of anxiety, depression, and often aggression. Alcohol’s first effect as it reaches the outer brain is to distort your judgement and lower you inhibition, while producing euphoria (a sense of pleasure). As you consume more alcohol, and it reaches the cerebellum, your coordination and perception are affected, and you can have memory blackouts. As the alcohol reaches your mid-brain, reflexes diminish, you experience confusion, stupor, and may lapse into a coma. Once the alcohol finally reaches the medulla, or inner core of the brain, your heart rate drops and breathing ceases, resulting in death. Research suggests that continued alcohol use can cause depression. Alcohol robs brain cells of water and glucose, the brain’s food, contributing to a hangover the next day.

Your Gastrointestinal Tract – The stomach is irritated by alcohol, causing increased stomach acid production, causing heartburn and eventually ulcers. Alcohol use is linked to cancer of the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, and intestines. The liver, due to its role in breaking down alcohol, suffers the most damage. Alcohol use leads to destruction of liver cells, fat accumulation around the liver, and cirrhosis which is a fatal condition. Alcohol is also a diuretic, which causes the kidneys to increase urinary output, contributing to dehydration and your hangover.

Your Reproductive System – Although the research here is new, it is know that alcohol decreases the male hormone testosterone. Long-term use causes not only decreased function, but size. The use of alcohol in men and women causes increased sexual desire, but decreased performance. Alcohol is toxic to unborn children causing permanent tissue and organ damage.

Other – Alcohol depresses the body’s immune system making it easier to get sick. It also disrupts your sleep patterns, further depressing the immune system. Alcohol has been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, constipation, and strokes.

Problem drinking

Research has shown that drinking moderate amounts of alcohol can have health benefits. For men over 40, and women after the menopause, having one or two small drinks a day can help prevent coronary heart disease.

However, it is estimated that a quarter of men and one in six women in Britain drink enough to put their health at risk.

How much is too much?

Government guidelines state that men should drink no more than three to four units per day and women no more than two to three units per day. However, some medical experts believe these levels are too high, and recommend no more than three units a day for men and two a day for women. Either way, you should not “save up” the units over the week and use them to binge at the weekend.

Strength and units

The strength of an alcoholic drink is indicated by the percentage of alcohol by volume (ABV). A unit is 8 grams of pure alcohol, regardless of the amount of liquid it’s contained in.

The number of units in one litre of any drink is equal to the ABV. So a 500ml can of 8% ABV lager contains 4 units. One unit is equal to:

· about half a pint (300ml) of ordinary-strength lager, beer or cider,

· a 25ml pub measure of spirit or a small glass of fortified wine, such as sherry or port (17.5% ABV),

· a small glass (125 ml) of 8% ABV wine. .

Alcohol dependence

When drunk frequently or in large quantities, alcohol is addictive. Doctors use a number of techniques to identify patients with drink problems, and there are screening questions drinkers may be asked to explore issues such as the amount and frequency of drinking, whether it damages the drinker’s relationships, or whether they have a drink to “get going” in the morning.

A person is generally considered to be dependent on alcohol when they have experienced three or more of the following symptoms during a year:

a strong urge to drink,
difficulty controlling drinking,
physical withdrawal symptoms, such as sweating, shaking, agitation and nausea when they try to reduce drinking,
a growing tolerance to alcohol (needing larger quantities to get the same effect),
gradual neglect of other activities,
Persistent drinking even though it is obviously causing harm.
Problem drinking occurs when a person is not dependent on alcohol, but drinks enough to cause actual physical or psychological harm.

Short-term effects

Alcohol suppresses the part of the brain that controls judgement, resulting in a loss of inhibitions. It also affects physical co-ordination, causing blurred vision, slurred speech and loss of balance. Drinking a very large amount at one time (binge drinking) can lead to unconsciousness, coma, and even death. Vomiting while unconscious can lead to death by asphyxiation (suffocation). Alcohol is implicated in a large proportion of fatal road accidents, assaults and incidents of domestic violence.

Long-term effects

Alcohol can be a dangerous drug. Drinking too much too often will cause physical damage, increase the risk of getting some diseases, and make other diseases worse. Excessive drinking over time is associated with:

· loss of brain cells,

· liver failure,

· irritated stomach lining and bleeding from stomach ulcers,

· high blood pressure (which can lead to stroke),

· certain types of cancer,

· nerve damage,

· heart failure,

· epilepsy.

Excessive drinking has also been linked to:

· vitamin deficiency

· obesity,

· sexual problems,

· infertility,

· muscle disease,

· skin problems,

· Inflammation of the pancreas.

With many Hypnotherapy sessions soothing music accompanies the therapy at strategic points, helping you to relax even more, and absorb the information whilst the therapist guides you with gentle suggestions, positive language, and life changing imagery. You will always be in control at all times, able to awaken immediately should the need arise and attend to anything that you need to. No one can ever be stuck in hypnosis, nor can they be coerced into saying or doing anything they do not want to, or does not fit with their own moral code.

So if you feel that your social drinking is getting out of control, or you abstain all week then binge at the weekends, or you drink a little more than you know you should at the end of each day, or the thought of not having another drink again unduly worries you, then Hypnotherapy and Self-Hypnosis could be the answer.

I went out on my bday and got shitfaced and blacked out. I had 4 shots + a beer within the first hour and a half. And I had a few more drinks through out the night. Probably around 9 or 8 drinks total. Most where Liquir I only had one beer. I ended up blacking out at the end of my party which was 2am. I dont remember the drive home. I think I was asleep. Once I got home I puked in my fiances Handbag, and ended up sleeping face down in a toilet.

The end result was a Hangover for about 5 days. I went to the Dr. on the third day because I was scared of the hangover lasting so long. I never drink, maybe on 2 other occasions I have. The Dr. Sent me home and said drink Poweraid/Gatoraid and water and get rest. Thats what I did, and on day 5 I was 100% better after a good nap.

My question is how long can the alcohol stay in your system and give you hangover effects?

Because starting on July 6th, 2 weeks after me having a shitty feeling and getting better. I started to feel shitty again, but this feeling is like 100 times worse.

Can this be from the alcohol?

Ive had blood tests done and a CT scan and the Dr’s say im healthy.
Someone help me out.

This new feeling has been going on for 30 days, 24/7. And it sucks ass.

I cant focus, I have no appetite, I cant concentrate, I feel hungover all day. I feel tired but anxious at the same time. My eyes feel heavy. I dont feel like me at all.I cant remember things and I have fuzzy feeling headaches and my eyes start to ache. I even started to develope thoughts of suicide or hurting myself to see if this is all just a bad dream.

Am I just comming down with major depression?

So, I think I’m suffering from mild depression, and I’m considering taking antidepressants. But, there is no way I will give up being able to get drunk on weekends for anything. I mean, what’s the point of even being alive if you can’t have fun when you feel like it? I wouldn’t take any medication if it was going to prevent me from drinking.

So, what are people’s experiences with drinking on antidepressants? Has anyone found it possible to drink while taking them without significant problems? If so, what type were they?

Also, does anyone have an opinion on what the best medication to take would be if being able to drink on it was the main priority?

(And don’t say “you can’t drink on antidepressants because alcohol is a depressant” … “Depression” as in the mood is not the same as the central nervous system “depression” caused by alcohol, FYI!)

Last night I drank a Malibu cocconut and some licquor. I had done the same thing the day before, though I felt fine. Yesterday I started getting tipsy, very sleepy and at one point I was getting a panic attack: I felt that sickening cold spreading through my body and my face (like all the blood was leaving my face), I couldn’t stand properly, I was feeling out of control.

I went to the bathroom a couple times because I felt sick (probably just the anxiety acting up) but nothing came out. I nearly fell asleep there and when I opened my eyes again I felt so out of it, like I didn’t know where I was or who I was or something. It really freaked me out. Especially because I hadn’t had a panic attack in months!

Later I had to walk home and that seemed to help a bit. The anxiety went away. When I got home I felt pretty sick still so I stuck my toothbrush in my throat to force the vomit out. Only threw up a little but felt much better.

I normally take mexazolam before I go to bed every night (there was a time I couldn’t get any proper sleep so I had to take these) and Prozac every two days in the morning. Because I had been drinking I felt I shouldn’t take either of them…

Today I feel better but I still feel sleepy (though can’t get another wink even if I wanted to), my stomach’s weird and I’m a tad light-headed. Nothing too bad, just not the ideal situation. Plus, I rarely rarely rarely drink so that could be it.

*My question is*: did pills and alcohol (they weren’t mixed but obviously there were remains in my bloodstream so they had to meet at one point) cause my panic attack? Should I still take my pills after a night of drinking some alcohol? Does it make it worse? How long before I get better? Should I never drink alcohol while I’m on this medication?
I didn’t take my medication before and after drinking, I just felt it wouldn’t do me any good.

For the last few months I have been getting pain in my upper right quadrant after drinking alcohol. I have been a heavy drinker since my university days, I’m now 33, and at one point would probably have been consuming up to 100 units per week.

In January of this year I decided that my drinking had to stop as I realised that I was abusing drink and using it as a tool to mask depression, anxiety and general unhappiness. Around the same time as I decided to tackle my mental issues I started getting these pains on the right hand side of my abdomen (coincidence?) around the bottom of the ribs.

I visited my doctor and explained the situation and he referred me for some liver function tests (2 months ago) and subsequently an abdominal ultrasound (3 weeks ago). Both the liver function tests and the abdominal ultrasound appear to indicate that there is absolutely nothing physically wrong with my liver, gallbladder or kidneys. No inflammation, signs of fatty liver, signs of it not processing toxins properly etc…I have seen three different doctors at my local surgery regarding this and all say that there is nothing physically wrong with me. I have also been physically examined and again nothing would indicate any liver problems.

I have naturally cut drinking down to an absolute minimum and didn’t drink at all for around 2 months whilst I was undergoing tests etc. I feel so much better mentally and physically since changing my habits and have also been taking up a lot more regular exercise: running, swimming, pilates and squash which are naturally helping to increase my sense of well-being.

However on the rare occasions that I have had an alcoholic drink, since being told that I’m fine, I get the pain back. All it takes is one glass of wine or pint of beer/cider and the following day I will have this inner pinching type of pain under towards the bottom of my rib cage, right hand side that heads up towards the navel area.

Can anyone share any similar stories, diagnosis or suggest a line of enquiry I should take with my doctor? Things I am thinking about include:

• allergy to alcohol or yeast/hops/grapes(?!?)
• irritable bowel syndrome (I think the pain would be lower down however)
• gout/high levels of uric acid – can you test for this?
• psychological – am I creating the pain through worry?

I just want to get on with the rest of my life. I feel I have taken some huge steps and have a much more positive outlook but all the time things hangs around it keeps niggling at my brain and my worry is that my symptoms all seem to indicate liver problems but tests prove otherwise.

Thanks for taking the time to read – any advice warmly received!

Im curios if drinking alcohol is a sin cause in the bible many people drank wine. I recall a part in the bible where Noah was so drunk he fell asleep naked and later his sons saw him laying naked and covered him.
So what do ya think, is drinking a sin or what?

I had cancer and the chemo damaged my liver. My doctor told me not to drink alcohol because I needed to save my liver for when I get cancer again. My enzymes levels are fine.

The doctor also told me the kind of cancer I would get is 100% fatal (but not painful). There is currently no cure for it. Maybe in the future.

My marriage sucks. No communication, no sex, no fighting anymore. I am being treated for depression and in therapy but I feel trapped. I cannot leave. I tried.

I think if I want to have a glass of wine once in a while it’s my funeral. I know this sounds like alcoholic logic. Maybe I am one. Maybe I am in danger of becoming one.

My husband hides his drinking which is one drink a day by drinking out of a coffee cup. That doesn’t justify my hiding and by omission lying. I hid it by having a glass in the afternoon or when I go out once a month with my girlfriends. Minimizing, I know.

I have a 14 year old daughter, which is reason enough not to drink or hide my drinking. An 18 year old male picked her up and had her chug tequila. My husband has made it clear that because he caught me drinking a glass of wine, I am now the cause of what happened to her.

So I threw out the wine bottle. I won’t drink alcohol anymore. No big deal. Period. I have gone up to 5 years without any wine or beer when I was pregnant, nursing, undergoing three years of chemo, or happy.

But how do I deal with my husband? He is going to torture me with this. He is going to search my room, car, everywhere. I can barely live with him before this. I feel like running away.

Should I go to my daughter’s soccer game where he is? He has to control his anger in public. But then he gets in a rage when he gets me alone.

Help me.

When this happens, it can change the brain wave patterns in your brain. It has been found that people with addictive personalities have low Alpha activity within their brains; this means they have trouble relaxing, and turning off their thoughts. I felt fine the next morning at 8am, but at about 10am, I started feeling horribly nauseas, and at about 11am I started shivering. I was kind of freaking out.
I ended up being nauseas til the next morning (12 hours of sleep helped).

I’m wondering if I had alcohol withdrawal or not.
It was my first time, so I am really not sure.

The day after I get drunk, I usually have a mild hang over. You know, I’m sort of sluggish and dehydrated. That’s about it.

But emotionally, I feel really depressed and almost guilty about something. It’s a heavy dreary feeling. The first few times this happened, I kept feelin like I had done something wrong. But now, I realise it just happens after I drink a lot. There must be a chemical cause to this awful feeling associated with hang over. Does anyone else have these effects or know what causes it?

(Also, I drink an appropriate level of alcohol. I get really drunk on those occassions when others are drunk too- for example at a wedding or a holiday or a party. Friends and family drink a lot, but I’m not talking about regular boozing)
I’m not asking for advice. I know it is a depressant and I know that I could obviously just not drink to avoid the feeling.

I’m asking why I feel that way. What is the cause? There must be something chemical happening.

I’ve been taking Lexapro and Klonopin for about 2 weeks now. I had a couple episodes of panic attacks and anxiety attacks before. Went to the ER and they prescribed me to lexapro and klonopin.

2 days ago, I went out drinking with friends and overdid myself. Yesterday, I felt fine, no anxiety or panic attack. However, today, I had an episode of panic attack.

Could alcohol cause lexapro to not work and cause me to have one? I never had any anxiety/panic attacks nor depression ever since on medications except today. I did cut down on klonopin because the doctor recommended it.
