The darker side of this modern life style is the tremendous pressure and stress that is sometimes unbearable. And out of these pressure people are suffering from anxiety and frustration. This time the effect of recession has brought all these things of anxiety and depression in people’s mind that they are seeking the temporary escape from these problems by taking drugs and alcohol. Not only that the illegal drugs are the sources of this addiction but also it is often seen these days that people are getting addicted to prescription drugs also. This too is quite an alarming fact. Addiction to painkillers and prescription drug addiction are two new things with theirs fatal effects. But people are quite ignorant while taking these drugs and painkillers. In general this is called drug abuse. Any kind of drug abuse can be termed as drug addiction too as does not mean addicted to things like marijuana, heroine, cocaine etc. other drug addictions are like opiate addiction, xanex addiction.

The effects of all these types of drug addiction are both physical and mental. The particular person becomes gradually poorer and poorer day by day and he loses his concentration and patience. He becomes unstable and anxious and always wants to take drug or opium or painkillers or prescribed medicines. Thus the result of this drug addiction not only does a lot of harm to the individual only but also has quite an ill effect on his family and the society as a whole.

Question by : Is there any other non-prescribed drug for depression/anxiety other than alcohol?
I abuse alcohol frequently because of my untreated depression/anxiety. Are there any other alternatives to alcohol without having to see a doctor? I am afraid to have to see a doctor because I am a male and I hate feeling like I can’t handle things on my own. I have had some recent problems with short term memory which I believe is from the prolonged alcohol abuse. I am 19 years old and have been drinking for years. I really like it, but I know it is not good for me and is only a temporary cure for my depression.
